Alejandro Garay Celeita Named Inaugural Curator for Latin American Art at Gilcrease

Dr. Alejandro Garay Celeita has been named the first assistant curator for Latin American art and culture at the Gilcrease Museum located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He will become part of the curatorial team as they gear up for the launch of a new facility in early 2027. Garay Celeita possesses extensive knowledge of both historical and modern Latin American art, as well as archival collections. His responsibilities will encompass leading exhibitions, acquisitions, research, and interpretation related to the museum's extensive visual culture and archival assets, which span fine art from the 16th to the 20th centuries. This collection includes Spanish colonial retablos and works by notable artists such as Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco. Gilcrease is also renowned for its significant American Western art and Native American materials, highlighting the museum's dedication to enhancing its Latin American collection and reaching diverse audiences.
