Alberto Barbera Confirmed as Venice Biennale Cinema Artistic Director Through 2028

The Venice Biennale's board of directors, led by president Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, has extended Alberto Barbera's appointment as artistic director of the Cinema sector for the 2027 and 2028 terms. This renewal follows his current mandate, which concludes after the 83rd International Film Festival in September 2026. The decision recognizes Barbera's achievements in curating high-quality selections, promoting emerging filmmakers, expanding film culture, and increasing audience engagement. Barbera has held this position since 2012, previously serving from 1998 to 2001. His career includes leadership roles at the Torino Film Festival and the National Cinema Museum in Turin, along with numerous industry honors.
