Albert Serra expands role as producer for radical filmmakers

Albert Serra, known as one of Spain's most radical film directors, has taken on a new role as a risk-taking producer. Through his production company Andergraun, alongside partner Montse Triola, he seeks to fund projects by fellow directors who share his vision and challenges. Serra compares his approach to that of the Nouvelle Vague directors and Pedro Almodóvar. He helps filmmakers secure financing from multiple countries, as single-country funding has become scarce. Serra is a producer of 'Magallanes', a biopic about the conquistador directed by Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz. He stated that no one has ever suggested changing a comma in his films, though they have asked for shorter cuts.
