African Art Exhibition 'Sguardi sull'Africa' Redefines Contemporary Art Narratives in Piacenza

The exhibition 'Sguardi sull'Africa' is currently on view at Palazzo Gotico in Piacenza, running from March 1 to May 4, 2026. Curated by Paolo Giglio and Samuele Manin, this ambitious presentation features over two hundred artworks and artifacts that trace African artistic production from the twentieth century to recent contemporary practices. The exhibition brings together two significant private collections—the Collezione Giglio and Collezione 54—for the first time in a unified display. Organized into four main sections, the show moves from ritual objects and sculptures originally created for spiritual purposes to twentieth-century Moroccan painting, contemporary African art, and works by emerging artists. Trium Art Gallery contributes to the exhibition with selected works by artists Ibrahim Ballo, Odinakachi Okoroafor, Pedro Pires, and Soly Cissé, whose pieces address themes of identity, memory, and the global African experience. The exhibition is accompanied by a program of collateral activities including talks, roundtables, workshops, and performances designed to engage diverse audiences. This presentation reflects the growing prominence of African art within the global contemporary art system, challenging established perspectives and offering new connections between history, identity, and contemporary imagination. Admission is free, with opening hours Monday through Friday 10:00–13:00 and 15:00–18:00, and weekends 10:00–19:00.
