Adriana Ramić's First German Solo Show at Kunstverein Schwerin Explores Identity and History

The Kunstverein für Mecklenburg und Vorpommern in Schwerin is hosting Adriana Ramić's inaugural institutional solo exhibition in Germany, titled 'Confusion model into a butterfly,' running until April 12, 2026. Curated by Hendrike Nagel and Luisa Kleemann, the presentation features multimedia installations that investigate hybrid identities, transcultural knowledge, and critiques of anthropocentric perspectives through video, sculpture, and text. Central to the show is a new five-channel video work, 'Multi-scene inputs (Oursa and Ljudmila),' created between 2025 and 2026, which follows two cats as protagonists in varied historical and geographical settings. One cat, Oursa, resides in a former villa of Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha in Tirana, now repurposed as an artist residency, with the footage highlighting themes of power, surveillance, and memory. The other, Ljudmila, is filmed near Lake Bileća in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where submerged ruins resurface seasonally, connecting to Ramić's exploration of her family origins. Additional installations include 'Enumerate candidates,' referencing Eastern European food preservation traditions, and 'Unseen behavior,' which uses collectible animal stickers to examine cultural classification systems. The exhibition incorporates sculptural elements like mirror-walled maquettes and hanging lenses that alter viewer perception, blending objective historiography with subjective experience. A digital extension on the Kunstverein's website, 'Times the flowers in function,' integrates research from animal psychology, computer vision, and other fields, reflecting Ramić's interdisciplinary approach. The works collectively address ideological constructions, behavioral patterns, and the ongoing relevance of past events in contemporary contexts.
