Abell Auction Co. to Sell Natzler Estate Ceramics from Historic Hollywood Hills Home

On April 21, Abell Auction Co. will conduct "The Natzler Estate: Masters of Modern Ceramics," a sale featuring over 300 lots of original pottery and personal property from the Hollywood Hills home of Otto and Gertrud Natzler. The couple, who fled Nazi-annexed Austria in 1938 and settled in Los Angeles, established one of modern studio ceramics' most significant artistic partnerships. Gertrud Natzler became renowned for her exceptionally thin, masterfully thrown forms, while Otto Natzler developed more than 2,000 innovative glazes through extensive experimentation. Together they produced over 25,000 works, many now in major museum collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Institution. The auction, offering masterfully crafted ceramics that helped define 20th-century design, will include live online bidding starting at 9 a.m. PDT, accessible to collectors worldwide.
