Aaron Siskind's Harlem Document: 1932-1940 Photographs

Aaron Siskind's early documentary photographs from 1932-1940, part of the Harlem Document project, capture the vibrancy and harsh realities of Harlem's Black community during the Great Depression. Siskind, a member of the New York Photo League's Feature Group, used a large format camera to depict street life, domestic interiors, churches, theaters, and dance halls.
