A Queer Arcana: Art, Magic, and Spirit at Palm Springs Art Museum

From March 28 to October 18, 2026, the Palm Springs Art Museum will host "A Queer Arcana: Art, Magic, and Spirit," under the curation of David Evans Frantz. This exhibition, part of the Q+ Art Initiative, delves into themes of the occult, esotericism, and queer resistance through a variety of mixed-media pieces from Southern California. Artists showcased include Steven Arnold, Clarity Haynes, Nancy Azara, Candice Lin, Devan Shimoyama, Mundo Meza, and Hilma's Ghost. Notable works include Haynes's "Altar for Laura Aguilar" (2022), Azara's "Circle with Seven Hands" (1996), and Lin's "PPD (Personal Protective Demon)" (2023). Additionally, archival materials from the One Archives and pieces by Agnes Pelton and Marsden Hartley highlight desert mysticism, with themes such as "Out of Your Broom Closets" and "Sex Magick."
