358 musical instruments from five continents at Mexico's National Museum of Anthropology

The National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City opened 'Music of Mexico and the World' on July 17, 2026, featuring 358 musical instruments from Mexico, the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Curated by ethnomusicologist Juan Guillermo Contreras Arias, the exhibition explores the forms, uses, and meanings of instruments across cultures, highlighting parallels and differences. Organized by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) through its National Coordination of Museums and Exhibitions, the show is housed in the Temporary Exhibitions Gallery with free admission. Mexico's Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, stated that the exhibition broadens understanding of heritage by focusing on musical traditions.
