23 Soccer Ball Sculptures Installed Across NYC and New Jersey in Art of the Game
The Jersey City nonprofit ARTS 14C has launched the Art of the Game initiative, showcasing 23 oversized soccer ball sculptures throughout New York City and New Jersey. Each sculpture, comparable in size to a compact car, is constructed from 12 pentagon and 20 hexagon aluminum composite panels mounted on a steel framework. They were created at Powerhouse Arts in Gowanus, Brooklyn, and assembled at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City. Notable participating venues include the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This project is dedicated to the late Agnes Gund. Artists involved feature Ronny Quevedo, Bony Ramirez, and Hank Willis Thomas, among others. Two works by Bernhardt and Thomas will be auctioned at Christie's after Labor Day.
