20,000 protest AfD congress in Erfurt, Germany

On Saturday, Erfurt in Thuringia saw about 20,000 protesters rally against the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party's annual meeting. The event was organized by a group called "Resistance," and demonstrators blocked major roads and disrupted public transport. Some even climbed down from a motorway bridge to stage sit-ins in the city center. Despite the protests, most AfD delegates made it to the conference venue, allowing the event to kick off as planned. These demonstrations come ahead of state elections, where the AfD hopes to gain more power. Lene Krug, a 19-year-old protester from Gera, voiced her concerns, stating the AfD promotes hate and undermines democracy. Currently, the AfD leads in national opinion polls.
