1X Technologies unveils humanoid hand with 25 joints for household robot Neo

California-based 1X Technologies has released the final version of its humanoid hand for the Neo robot, designed to match or surpass human capability. The hand features 25 joints granting 25 degrees of movement, with motors placed in the forearm to mimic human biology. It is covered in a sensor-equipped skin for pressure detection. Neo can perform tasks like assembling LEGO, picking up screws, using a screwdriver, zipping a jacket, and communicating via sign language. The first household models are set to ship this year. 1X founder Bernt Børnich stated the hands are the culmination of intensive engineering to make humanoids truly useful. The company claims it can produce 10,000 hands this year entirely in-house. Tesla has also relocated motors to the forearm in its Optimus Gen 3 hand and plans to use former Model S factory lines for mass production. 1X's hand development marks a step in humanoid robot advancement integrated with AI.
