Zut: New Art and Design Fair Launches in Parisian 18th-Century Mansion

A new mini-fair called Zut debuted in Paris during the city's art week, held in the historic Hôtel de Guise, an 18th-century hôtel particulier on the Left Bank. Organized by an alliance of seven galleries—A1043 (Paris), Deli Gallery (New York), Friedman/Johnson (Miami), Galerie Mitterrand (Paris), Salon 94 Design (New York), The Breeder (Athens), and Volume Gallery (Chicago)—the fair combines art and design, a trend also seen at Frieze Masters in London (with its Stand Out section) and Design Miami at Tefaf Maastricht. The event was sparsely publicized and ran as a collateral to Paris+ during Paris Art Week. Organizers stated they would evaluate the response to decide whether to make Zut an annual event, possibly changing venues each time. The fair was praised for its installation choices, presentation, and quality of works. The location, at 72 rue de l'Université, added to the appeal with its romantic, decadent atmosphere.
