Zurich Art Weekend 2023 Showcases Contemporary Art Across Diverse Venues
Zurich Art Weekend took place from 9–11 June 2023, presenting a curated program across the city's art spaces. Christopher Kulendran Thomas exhibited at Kunsthalle Zurich with a film installation examining Colombo's art market until 10 September. Arthur Jafa's SloPEX at Luma Westbau slowed down his APEX film with Robert Hood's score, on view until 17 September. Cindy Sherman displayed digitally manipulated portraits at Hauser and Wirth through 16 September. Monster Chetwynd installed monstrous heads at Cabaret Voltaire, with an upcoming Artists' Bar occupation from August 2023 to July 2024. On Ramistrasse, Itsuki Kaito showed at Blue Velvet Projects until 29 July, Tschabalala Self exhibited at Eva Presenhuber until 22 July, and Shirana Shahbazi presented at Galerie Peter Kilchmann until 28 July. Malgorzata Mirga-Tas displayed textile works at Karma International until 15 July. The Immersive Arts Space at ZHdK featured a digital installation exploring AI body scanning, while an Art+Tech panel discussion with Christopher Salter, HEK's director, and Claudio Tussore examined AI's impact on media art. Both Kulendran Thomas and Jafa participated in talks organized by the weekend. The event connected galleries at Löwenbräukunst and other locations, situating historical and contemporary perspectives.
