Zurich Art Weekend 2018: Galleries, Museums, and Special Events Ahead of Art Basel

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

Zurich Art Weekend 2018 takes place from June 8 to 10, just before Art Basel (June 14-17). Over 50 events are organized by museums, art centers, foundations, international galleries, and non-profit spaces, including exhibition openings with artists present, curator-led tours, conferences, live performances, city tours, and exclusive cocktails and dinners. Highlights include: Hauser & Wirth presents 'Jean Dubuffet and the City,' the first exhibition focusing on the role of the city in Dubuffet's work, featuring over 50 works spanning four decades, accompanied by a book with three previously untranslated texts by the artist. The gallery also shows large-scale drawings and a new installation by Roni Horn, 'Wits’ End Sampler,' exploring identity and textual play. At Cabaret Voltaire, Carlos Amorales commemorates his 2017 site-specific drawings with a limited-edition absinthe bottle designed with Ivan Martinez, launched during the weekend. Galerie Mai 36 celebrates John Baldessari's 87th birthday (June 17) with new works combining text and images, referencing windmills and Cervantes. Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst presents 'Teresa Burga: Aleatory Structures,' a survey of the Peruvian artist's Pop Art paintings, conceptual objects, and cybernetic installations documenting social realities. Galerie Francesca Pia shows Wade Guyton's new series 'Fire and Fury,' continuing his exploration of digital image-making.
