ZU's Amazonian Sound Performance at Turin's Cinema Massimo
The Italian experimental rock band ZU will present their new album 'Terminalia Amazonia' on January 16 at Cinema Massimo in Turin, as part of the Jazz is Dead festival in collaboration with the Museo Nazionale del Cinema. The performance, previously staged at Digitalive 2019 in Rome, blends field recordings from the Amazon rainforest with shamanic Shipibo-Conibo songs, enhanced by visuals from Lillevan Recherche. The album addresses climate change through a spiritual and shamanic lens, incorporating night-time field recordings of Icaros healing songs. The event coincides with the museum's 20th anniversary celebrations, which began on July 20, 2000, at the Mole Antonelliana. The band, consisting of Massimo Pupillo, Luca T. Mai, Jaco Battaglia, and guitarist Stefano Pilia, spent four years collecting sounds in the jungle. Lillevan, co-founder of Rechenzentrum, is known for collaborations with Fennesz and Morton Subotnick.
