Ziqian Liu's intimate photographic self-portraits on show in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Other Size Gallery in Milan, in collaboration with Paola Sosio Contemporary Art, presents Inner Eye, a solo exhibition of works by Chinese artist Ziqian Liu (b. 1990) created since 2020. The series functions as an intimate photographic diary, offering access to the artist's inner world. Liu uses self-portraiture as a means of solitary dialogue, with each image resulting from a lengthy introspective process seeking balance and beauty. The creative process alludes to introspection while simultaneously pursuing a symbiosis between humans and nature. Objects such as plants and brightly colored fruits stand out against tones ranging from brown to pink to cream. Liu reveals only parts of her body, inviting viewers to project themselves as protagonists. The presence of one or more mirrors represents the idealized world the artist aspires to, characterized by order and symmetry achieved through slow composition and continuous adjustments using only natural light. The photographs convey a soft, delicate femininity and a tranquil, harmonious surrounding world.
