Zineb Sedira's Exhibition on Pan-African Utopias Opens at Tabakalera
In San Sebastián, Tabakalera is showcasing a solo exhibition titled 'Standing Here Wondering Which Way to Go' by Zineb Sedira, a Franco-Algerian artist born in Paris in 1963. Curated by Rita Fabiana and Ane Agirre Loinaz, the exhibition delves into the utopian visions of the 1960s in Algeria and its diaspora, emphasizing cultural contributions to global liberation movements. Central to the exhibition is the first Pan-African Cultural Festival of Algiers (PANAF) held in 1969, underscoring the city's cultural importance. A notable highlight is William Klein's 1969 film 'Festival panafricain d'Alger.' The installation incorporates video, photography, and music across four scenes, addressing Spain's colonial history. Klein's film will be screened on February 21, with Sedira in attendance, alongside Gillo Pontecorvo's 'The Battle of Algiers' (1966).
