Ziad Antar's Safe Sounds at La Criée, Rennes
From December 13, 2013, to February 16, 2014, La Criée centre d'art in Rennes showcases Safe Sounds, an exhibition featuring eight video pieces by Lebanese artist Ziad Antar. The gallery is designed with a dark ambiance that combines visuals and audio. Antar's personal exploration includes two Super 8 films: Des Oliviers (2013), which captures the process of olive farming in Saïda, and Saïda (2013), presenting the city from a maritime perspective. Additionally, he documents the largest open-air landfill in the Mediterranean and a fish market, offering a critical view of his native city. The exhibition also features static videos paired with musical performances, concluding with Safe Sound (2006), which portrays the 33-Day War between Israel and Hezbollah, ending with a love song by Fahd Ballan.
