Zerocalcare's animated series 'Strappare lungo i bordi' debuts on Netflix

Zerocalcare, the Italian cartoonist born Michele Rech in Arezzo in 1983, released his first animated series 'Strappare lungo i bordi' on Netflix on November 17, 2021. The six-episode series, each about 15 minutes long, follows Zerocalcare and his friends Sarah and Secco on a train journey, blending autobiographical flashbacks with social-political commentary on events like the 2001 G8 summit in Genoa and the 1992 mafia massacres. The series is produced by Movimenti Production in collaboration with BAO Publishing. Zerocalcare provides the voice for all characters except the armadillo, voiced by Valerio Mastandrea. The soundtrack includes original music by Giancane, with songs by Tiziano Ferro and Manu Chao. Zerocalcare describes the series as a mix of sadness and irony, rooted in his punk and social center background. He previously experimented with animation during the 2020 lockdown with 'Rebibbia quarantine'.
