publication · 2026-04-27

Zerocalcare, the Roman cartoonist known for his grotesque style and tragicomic tales of suburban life, has announced a new comic titled 'A babbo morto: una storia di Natale,' set for release in November 2020. The 80-page full-color volume, published by Milan-based Bao Publishing, explores the death of Santa Claus and its aftermath, blending illustrated book, fictional investigation, and comic. The story follows Santa's children managing the family business amid globalization, with exploited elves and gnomes protesting after the mysterious death of Gnomo Gaetano. The synopsis also references the Befana's struggles with labor issues. Additionally, a retrospective exhibition 'Senza santi, senza eroi' at the Museo di Palazzo Pretorio in Peccioli, Pisa, runs until September 20, 2020, curated by Giulia Ferracci, featuring Zerocalcare's drawings from 2003 to present, including characters like T-rex, Lady Cocca, Robin Hood, Kurt Cobain, Gaetano Bresci, and the Secco.
