ZERO Founders Reunited at Almine Rech: Light, Space, Time
Galerie Almine Rech in Paris presents 'Piene, Mack, Uecker: Light, Space and Time,' an exhibition reuniting the three founding members of the ZERO group: Otto Piene, Heinz Mack, and Günther Uecker. The show features fourteen works spanning from the 1950s to the present day. ZERO was born in 1957 in Düsseldorf, Germany, when Piene and Mack issued a manifesto declaring 'We are for everything. Pessimism ends… ZERO is born.' Uecker joined in 1961. The group's program centered on light, space, and time. Piene used fire to burn canvases, revealing light, and dreamed of projecting light into the night sky. Mack worked with embossed aluminum sheets that shift with the viewer's movement. Uecker hammered thousands of nails into canvas, their shadows creating ever-changing patterns. The exhibition runs from May 30 to July 25, 2026, at 18 avenue Matignon, Paris.
