Zeppelin Museum Examines Nazi Propaganda in New Exhibition
The Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen has launched an exhibition titled "Gefühlte Wahrheiten. Zeppeline und Nationalsozialismus" (Felt Truths: Zeppelins and National Socialism), marking the first exploration of the zeppelin aviation's involvement during the Nazi period and its use in propaganda. This event, part of the museum's 30th anniversary celebration, will be on display from May 22, 2026, to April 4, 2027. It showcases approximately 200 artifacts, including historical photographs and documents from Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH and Deutsche Zeppelin-Reederei (DZR) from 1933 to 1940. Notable figures like Hugo Eckener and significant events such as the "Hindenburg" flight to the 1936 Olympics are featured. The exhibition challenges the myth of the "Golden Age of Airship Travel" and includes a related publication. Funding is provided by Kulturstiftung der Länder (€45,500), ZF Kunststiftung, and Lotto Museumspreis 2024. Curators Dr. Tabea Widmann and Felix Banzhaf offer insights in a podcast.
