Zemlja: A Sustainable Retrofit Apartment in Sarajevo
The Zemlja apartment renovation, executed by Projekt V Arhitektura in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, showcases a sustainable approach to urban living. Finished in 2023, this 50 m² initiative is situated in a previously socialist district. Spearheaded by Vernes Causevic and Lucy Dinnen, the design incorporates materials sourced from Claytec, Kontinental, and Moebe. This project seeks to restore a sense of place and collective identity in a society healing from the Bosnian War and the Siege of Sarajevo during the 1990s. It raises the question of whether the act of reconstructing a home can lead to the revitalization of a community or even a nation.
