award · 2026-04-20

Zélie Hallosserie, a 21-year-old French photography student, has received the inaugural Saltzman-Leibovitz Photography Prize, earning $10,000 for her documentary project The Game, which portrays migrants in Calais, France, awaiting Channel crossings. The prize was founded by photographer Annie Leibovitz alongside philanthropist Lisa Saltzman. A judging panel including Drew Sawyer of the Whitney Museum, curator Isolde Brielmaier, photo editor Kira Pollack, and Vogue creative director Raul Martinez selected Hallosserie from participants in Leibovitz's mentorship program, commending her work's profound humanity and narrative strength. Five other shortlisted photographers—Elena Kalinichenko from Ukraine, Ka’Vozia Glynn from the United States, Praise Hassan from Nigeria, Toma Hurduc from Romania, and Trâm Nguyễn Quang from the Netherlands—will share an additional $10,000. Hallosserie's ongoing series illuminates migration realities in northern France through personal stories.
