Zeina Arida Appointed Director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha
This month, Zeina Arida has taken on the role of director at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, succeeding Abdellah Karroum. Karroum will transition to a special curatorial advisor position for Sheikha Amna Al Thani, who is the acting deputy CEO of Museums, Collections and Heritage Protection at Qatar Museums and the director of the National Museum of Qatar. Previously, Arida was the director of Beirut's Sursock Museum, a position she held since its reopening in 2014 after extensive renovations. She is credited with modernizing the museum and enhancing its status in Beirut's art community through various initiatives. After the 2020 Beirut explosion, she secured $2.5 million for restoration efforts. Arida also co-founded the Arab Image Foundation and has served on several boards, including MUCEM in Marseille.
