ZED1: Street Artist Weaves Melancholic Fairy Tales on Walls

Florentine street artist Marco Burresi, known as ZED1, creates melancholic, dreamlike murals featuring puppets, elves, and imaginary characters. His technique blends spray paint with rollers and brushes to achieve watercolor-like nuances. In 2017, he painted walls in Miami, Denver, San Francisco, Fortaleza (Brazil), Béja (Tunisia), and Saint-Paul (Réunion). For the Veregra Street Festival in Montegranaro, Italy, he completed 'Un viaggio per le stelle' on the Cinema Teatro La Perla, a month-long project that divided local opinion. ZED1 began writing in the early 1990s, later shifting to figurative work inspired by a Pinocchio puppet he saw at Certaldo's Mercantia festival. He describes his style as surrealist illustration. Recent projects include a performance titled 'Second Skin' at the 'Art can change the world' opening in Florence, organized by Street Levels Gallery and the Florence Biennale. ZED1 plans murals in Turin and Santander, Spain, with future work in the United States.
