ZDF Meteorologist Özden Terli Faces Pressure to Drop Climate Coverage

In a recent interview with the Freitag, ZDF meteorologist Özden Terli revealed that he faced pressure from the broadcaster to abandon his climate reporting. Terli, who regularly announces heatwaves and drought warnings on ZDF, stated that this summer's numerous heatwaves have made it difficult to keep track. He also defended the climate activist group 'Letzte Generation' against accusations of criminality. The interview comes amid growing concerns about water scarcity, as climate researcher Mojib Latif warned of a global 'water bankruptcy' and noted that Germans may resist change. The severity of the issue is evident at the Reckingen hydropower plant on the Hochrhein, where water levels are about 1.5 meters lower than usual, and the flow has dropped to roughly 160 cubic meters per second, a third of the normal 500 cubic meters, reducing electricity generation to one-third of its typical output.
