Zapruder Collective's 'Zeus Machine' Premieres at Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival

The Zapruder film collective, consisting of David Zamagni, Nadia Ranocchi, and Monaldo Moretti, will present their new film 'Zeus Machine' at the 11th edition of Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival in Florence, running from November 14 to 18, 2018. The film centers on the mythological hero Hercules, exploring his humanity through the lens of the Farnese Hercules sculpture and drawing parallels with contemporary 'heroes' in everyday life. Structured as 12 episodes called 'Fatiche' (Labors), the film features a diverse cast including students from IUAV Venice and the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, as well as Hollywood and Cinecittà stars like Sergio Fantoni, who voices Hercules in the prologue. The opening night on November 14 will also feature works by Peter Greenaway and Ra di Martino. In an interview, the collective discussed how myth exemplifies everything, describing time in myth as dense and stratified, like a statue that animates. They see the relationship between cinema and art as a continuous collision, producing the mythical ambivalence between the desire for the inanimate to come alive and the horror of the living turning to stone.
