Zanzara Arte Contemporanea: New Gallery Opens in Ferrara with Dual Spaces

A new contemporary art gallery, zanzara arte contemporanea, has opened in Ferrara's historic center at via del Podestà. Founded by curatorial duo Giulia Giliberti and Sara Ricci, the gallery occupies two distinct venues: a traditional white cube at 11/11A for painting and photography, and former stables at 14A for installations, performances, and events. The name references Joseph Beuys's 1981 statement 'art is a mosquito with a thousand wings.' The gallery launches with two mid-career artists born around the 1980s. David Grigoryan (Tbilisi, Georgia, 1987), a street photographer and photojournalist based in Odessa, presents 'Odessa sole mio,' a solo show featuring images taken before and during the ongoing war in Ukraine. Elisa Leonini (Ferrara, 1980) presents 'Anomaliae,' exploring the invisible and imperceptible through enlargements of vinyl and bakelite fragments, creating painterly images, sounds, and sculptures. The gallery also operates as a cultural association, organizing events, workshops, performances, and educational activities to reconnect contemporary art with the urban and social fabric. Both exhibitions run until December 30, 2022. After that, the spaces will host a collaborative project by Luca Zarattini and Denis Riva, mixing different languages and media.
