Zamanbap Art Collective Turns Bishkek Home into Living Performance Space
In Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the Zamanbap art collective has been bringing art to life in the home of artist Chingiz Aidarov, who started the group after recovering from a stroke in 2022. Located at 19 Zapadnaya Street, Zamanbap includes talented artists like Marat Raiymkulov and Salkyn Adysheva, and it grew out of the nomadic theater Art Group 705, founded in 2005. The name Zamanbap translates to 'contemporary' in Kyrgyz, and their performances draw on poor theatre techniques from Jerzy Grotowski. Upcoming projects include the Winter Theatre video series and the live performance Uncle Fantomas, both set for 2024, reflecting a unique blend of Kyrgyz and Russian cultures.
