Zaha Hadid's Serpentine Pavilion returns to auction at Sotheby's
The 2007 Serpentine Pavilion, designed by Zaha Hadid and initially erected in London’s Kensington Gardens, is set to be auctioned by Sotheby’s at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. This temporary structure features organic, mushroom-like shapes constructed from a metal framework and draped in white fabric. It was created as a last-minute substitute when the designs by Olafur Eliasson and Kjetil Thorsen were delayed. Now back on the market after being sold to a private collector, its price is rumored to exceed £500,000. Previous sales include Sou Fujimoto’s 2013 pavilion, which sold for £500,000, and Smiljan Radic’s 2014 design, acquired by Hauser & Wirth. Each year, the Serpentine Pavilion program invites a new architect, with past participants including Frank Gehry and Herzog & de Meuron.
