Zagor creator Gallieno Ferri dies at 87 in Genoa
Gallieno Ferri, the Italian comic book artist who co-created the iconic character Zagor with Sergio Bonelli in 1961, died in Genoa on April 2 at age 87. The announcement was made by Sergio Bonelli Editore, the publishing house founded by Bonelli's father Gian Luigi (creator of Tex Willer) and mother Tea Bertasi. Ferri, originally a surveyor from Liguria, joined the Bonelli creative family in the early 1960s and became a key figure across three generations of the company. He designed Zagor's character—an athletic, muscular, and agile hero for fantastical Western adventures—and produced numerous issues and all covers for the monthly and special editions. His last covers have yet to be published, ensuring his work will appear for several more months. Ferri's passing was mourned by writer and editor Moreno Burattini on Facebook, who noted that Ferri's adventure with Zagor only ended with his death.
