Yvonne Jacquette's Aerial Artistry Explored Through Utah Mountains and New York Nocturnes
Yvonne Jacquette, a Pittsburgh native born in 1934, has been spending her summer capturing the beauty of mountainous terrains in Maine and Utah from small aircraft. Her intricate aerial views, often depicting night scenes, are informed by photographs but fundamentally rooted in real-life observation. Influenced by her studies under Robert Roché at the Rhode Island School of Design, Jacquette's art merges perceptual realism with modernist elements. In the 1960s, she participated in a representational resurgence alongside artists such as Alex Katz and Janet Fish. Inspired by her late husband Rudy Burckhardt's photography, she explores aerial perspectives. Since 1995, she has also painted tangkas and practices Tibetan Buddhism. A book on Burckhardt's work is set for release by Abrams next year, with her Utah sketches emphasizing the vibrant contrasts of red and orange rocks.
