Yvon Lambert Gallery Announces Closure After 58 Years, Owner to Focus on Art Book Venture

The Yvon Lambert gallery will cease operations following the retirement of its founder. Established in 1966 in Paris, the gallery currently operates from rue Vieille-du-Temple. From 2003 to 2011, Lambert maintained a New York outpost, with a brief London attempt in 2009. Lambert's personal collection of 650 works was donated to France in 2012. The gallery represents a significant roster including Anselm Kiefer, Jenny Holzer, Douglas Gordon, and Lawrence Weiner. Other represented artists include Joan Jonas, On Kawara, Roman Opalka, and Cerith Wyn Evans. The founder plans to open a new venue dedicated to artistic books, rare prints, and exhibition catalogues. This closure marks the end of a prominent gallery that has operated for nearly six decades.
