Yves Klein's International Klein Blue Now Available as Paint for Home Use

other · 2026-05-04

The Yves Klein Estate has partnered with French paint manufacturer Ressource to produce Yves Klein®, a paint inspired by the artist's patented International Klein Blue (IKB). The collaboration marks the 90th anniversary of Klein's birth. Available in deep matte and velvet matte finishes at Ressource's New York showroom, the paint costs $100 per liter, covering 7.90 square meters. IKB, developed by Klein in the 1950s, became central to his monochrome works and Anthropometries, symbolizing spirituality and transcendence. The release recalls the controversy around Anish Kapoor's exclusive rights to Vantablack, a super-black pigment developed by Surrey NanoSystems. Kapoor's 2016 acquisition sparked backlash, leading artist Stuart Semple to create Black 2.0 and Black 3.0, explicitly banning Kapoor from using them.
