Yuval Avital's Mostrario Continues at Reggio Parma Festival
The second stage of Yuval Avital's Mostrario takes place December 2–4 at Teatro Due in Parma, part of the Reggio Parma Festival. The multidisciplinary work, which began November 18 at Teatro Regio di Parma, concludes December 11 in Reggio Emilia with live performances, installations, sculptures, and videomapping. Mostrario is the final chapter of Il Bestiario della Terra, the festival's year-long project, transforming major theaters into dreamlike exhibition and performance spaces. Avital, born in Jerusalem in 1977, created 18 bestial scenes exploring the human-animal relationship, drawing on medieval bestiaries as metaphors for humanity. This weekend at Teatro Due, audiences encounter mythical monsters including Cernunnos (performed by baritone Nicholas Isherwood and dancer Toni Candeloro), devils by Fondazione Famiglia Sarzi puppeteers, the Jewish clown (actor Davide Gagliardini) telling the Golem's origins, and the Black Man and Medusa, the latter petrified by an artist-created software of oversaturating information.
