Yuval Avital's 'Lucus' Transforms Lecce Foundation into Sacred Grove

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In Lecce, the Fondazione Biscozzi Rimbaud is showcasing 'Lucus', an exhibition by Israeli artist Yuval Avital, from July 16, 2023, until January 7, 2024. This exhibit includes ninety pieces that transform the venue into an immersive 'total room', reflecting the lost Mediterranean scenery of Salento. Curated by Massimo Guastella, it addresses themes of deforestation and ecological memory, drawing on the historical clearing activities of Romans and Venetians. Additionally, Avital is initiating 'Bosco di Lecce', a three-phase relational art project, which will conclude with an exhibition in November 2023 at MUST – Museo Storico della città di Lecce, curated by Lorenzo Madaro. Founded in 2018, the foundation features around two hundred works from artists active between the 1950s and 1990s, with upcoming exhibitions planned to highlight photography and music.
