Yuval Avital's 'Lessico Animale. Mysterion' at the Baths of Caracalla
Yuval Avital (Jerusalem, 1977) presents 'Lessico Animale. Mysterion' at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, curated by Cristiano Leone and scientific curator Mirella Serlorenzi. The exhibition, produced by the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma in collaboration with Reggio Parma Festival and Fondazione Teatro Due di Parma, reactivates the archaeological site through performance, video, sound sculptures, paintings, and installations. It focuses on the Mithraeum and underground galleries, exploring ancient ritual dimensions. Avital's project includes a performance inside the Mithraeum, referencing the seven stages of initiation represented by archetypal animals. The Baths of Caracalla have hosted contemporary art for over a decade, including works by Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mauro Staccioli, Fabrizio Plessi, and Penone. Avital's exhibition pays homage to Pistoletto's 'Terzo Paradiso' and 'Mela reintegrata'. The term 'Mysterion' evokes ancient mystery rites bridging conscious and unconscious, animal and human, reason and instinct. The exhibition runs in 2023.
