Yuri Ancarani's Video Art Accompanies Respighi's Roman Trilogy at Santa Cecilia

The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia opens its 2023-2024 symphony season at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome with a unique fusion of video art and classical music. From October 12 to 14, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, conducted by Hungarian Iván Fischer, performs Ottorino Respighi's Roman Trilogy (Pines of Rome, Fountains of Rome, Roman Festivals) alongside Franz Liszt's O Roma Nobilis and Dall'Alma Roma, accompanied by a video by Yuri Ancarani. The film, titled "Roma," was commissioned by the Accademia in collaboration with the Festa del Cinema di Roma and produced by Dugong Films with Archivio Luce Cinecittà. It offers unprecedented views of the Eternal City, evoking past eras and the magic of Cinecittà, including a cowboy on horseback among archaeological remains. In the foyer of Sala Santa Cecilia, one of Europe's largest concert halls, Ancarani has curated an exhibition of giant photographs taken from his film's frames. The artist stated that they started from the history of cinema set in Rome, which created new mythologies intersecting with the city's own myths, resulting in a new world of cinematic and historical myths.
