Yuri Ancarani's Solo Exhibition at Kunsthalle Basel
Yuri Ancarani, born in Ravenna in 1972 and based in Milan, presents his solo exhibition 'Sculture' at Kunsthalle Basel from February 9 to April 29, 2018. The show, organized in collaboration with Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, was supported by the second edition of the Italian Council competition, which promotes Italian contemporary art abroad. The exhibition spans five rooms and covers Ancarani's production from 2010 to the present, including the trilogy 'La malattia del ferro' starting with 'Il Capo' (2010), set in a Carrara marble quarry. Other works include 'Séance' (2014), 'San Siro' (2014), 'Whipping Zombie' (2017), 'Wedding' (2016), and 'The Challenge' (2016), a feature-length film exploring masculinity among young emirs, which won a jury prize at the Locarno Festival in 2016. A new work, 'San Vittore' (2018), enters the Castello di Rivoli collection. The exhibition is accompanied by the first catalog dedicated to the artist. Ancarani was a finalist for the 2014 MAXXI Prize with 'San Siro' and was selected by Massimiliano Gioni for the 2013 Venice Biennale.
