Yuri Ancarani's First Monographic Show at PAC Milano

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Yuri Ancarani, a video artist and filmmaker, presents his first monographic exhibition 'Lascia stare i sogni' at PAC (Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea) in Milan, curated by Diego Sileo and Iolanda Ratti. The show spans his last 20 years of work, transforming the iconic Ignazio Gardella architecture into a 'Cinema Multiplo' as described by Milan's culture councilor Tommaso Sacchi. The exhibition opens with 'Il Capo' (2010), featuring a foreman directing like an orchestra conductor. It is part of a two-venue project: at MAMbo in Bologna, 'Atlantide 2017-2023' is presented. Ancarani began making videos at age 8, filming anthills to 'Dance Little Sister'. His works include 'The Challenge' (2016) about Qatari falconers, 'Whipping Zombie' (2017) on Haitian zombie dances, and 'Da Vinci' (2012) addressing human error versus machine error. The show also premieres 'Il Popolo Delle Donne' (2023), a dialogue with psychoanalyst Marina Valcarenghi about violence against women, which won the 2023 Premio ACACIA and will enter the permanent collection of Museo del Novecento in Milan. Ancarani views AI as limiting personal and artistic freedom.
