Yumi Karasumaru creates pop bunny for 24Frame Future Film Fest

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

The 24Frame Future Film Fest in Bologna dedicates its 25th edition to the theme of play and toys, celebrating 30 years since the release of Toy Story. The animation festival runs from April 9 to 13 at DumBo. Japanese painter and performer Yumi Karasumaru (Osaka, 1958), who has lived in Bologna for 30 years, created the festival's new image featuring a pop bunny. Karasumaru studied painting at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Bologna and participated in Aperto '95 at GAM (ex Mambo) for the Venice Biennale. She was inspired by a 3D toy seen in a magazine 20 years ago and researched vintage toys from the 1940s and 1950s. The bunny carries the message 'Keep Smiling.' Karasumaru's work blends Japanese traditions, medieval art, and pop elements, as seen in her series 'Learning from the past' created during the pandemic.
