Yuliya Lanina's Solo Exhibition Closes with Performance at NY Studio Gallery
Yuliya Lanina's solo exhibition 'Birds and Bees' ran from April 7 to May 7, 2011 at NY Studio Gallery in New York City. The Russian-born artist had been an artist-in-residence at the gallery since the beginning of that year. Her show featured animations alongside supporting sculptures and drawings. The closing event on Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 pm coincided with the Festival of the New City and included a performance of 'Gentleman from Cracow,' a collaboration with her husband, composer Yevgeniy Sharlat. This piece was inspired by Isaac Bashevis Singer's short story of the same title, bringing an old-world perspective to the festival's utopian new world optimism. Singer had worked at the Daily Forward newspaper, whose offices were located in the neighborhood. The gallery was situated at 154 Stanton Street at Suffolk Street in New York City, with contact number (212) 627-3276.
