Yu-Chi Lyra Kuo Donates $1M to The Shed for Frontier Tech in Art

Yu-Chi Lyra Kuo, a Harvard-educated lawyer, former Princeton academic, and one of The Shed's youngest board members, is championing the integration of frontier technology with art. She donated $1 million to The Shed in 2026 to support frontier tech, creativity, and commissions, with an additional $500,000 for staff and admin. Kuo co-founded OpenSea 2.0 and was an early blockchain adopter in 2011. She partnered with Art Basel in December 2025 on a digital art exhibition featuring Beeple's robot dogs with faces of tech founders, which sold out. Kuo is co-chairing a secret Frontier Tech in Art project at a top arts institution, forthcoming in 2028. Her collecting practice includes donating to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and writing letters for young artists to the Fédération de la Haute Couture. Kuo believes technology enhances human creativity, not replaces it, and sees a new cultural renaissance ahead.
