Youth Group Occupies Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan, Municipality Files Complaint

A group of youth associations under the name 'Acropolis – Tempio del Futuro Perduto' has illegally occupied about 3,000 square meters of space at Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan's iconic art and creativity hub. The group claims the spaces were abandoned and in a state of decay, and they have set up 20 colored camping tents in the courtyard, declaring the birth of a new cultural space. They intend to renovate the area at their own expense and reopen it to the public through events, exhibitions, and cultural activities, offering job opportunities for young people. The Municipality of Milan responded by filing a formal complaint for illegal occupation of public land, stating that all spaces at Fabbrica del Vapore are assigned through public tenders for fixed-term use, with rent paid to the city. The municipality views the occupation as economic damage and a dangerous precedent. The space had been previously assigned via a tender in 2016 to a cultural association but was never taken over due to vandalism. The occupation is ongoing as legal proceedings unfold.
