Youth America Grand Prix Gala Celebrates Ballet with Star-Studded Performances and Designer Collaborations

The Youth America Grand Prix gala at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater featured over 1,500 young dancers from around the world, aged nine to nineteen, performing alongside established stars. Misty Copeland hosted the event, which included a solo by an eight-year-old from Brazil and a male rendition of Dance of the Little Swans. Christine Shevchenko performed Rainbow, choreographed by Melanie Hamrick with music arranged by Mick Jagger exclusively for the gala. Holt McCallany and Chris Noth praised ballet's discipline and lack of shortcuts compared to film. A seated dinner followed in a pink-themed promenade, featuring The Pointe Project's silent auction of designer-transformed ballet shoes by Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera's Wes Gordon, with proceeds supporting young dancers' training. Honorees included LoveShackFancy founder Rebecca Hessel Cohen and Melanie Hamrick, who started with YAGP at age twelve. The evening concluded with guests dancing to music by the Five Eleven girls, blurring lines between performers and audience.
