Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices at Mathaf

The Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha is set to showcase "Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices," an exhibition that highlights over forty filmmakers and video artists hailing from the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. This exhibition, which previously appeared at ACP-Palazzo Franchetti during the 60th Venice Art Biennale in 2024, delves into subjects such as exile, migration, and transnational movement. It features ten immersive sections across seven galleries, focusing on themes including deserts, ruins, borders, and exile. The works encompass fiction, documentary, animation, and memoir, intertwining narrative with reality, modernity with tradition, and spirituality with postcolonial perspectives. Notable artists include Wael Shawky, Lida Abdul, Hassan Khan, and Sophia Al Maria, alongside filmmakers from various countries. Curated by Matthieu Orléan, the exhibition is a collaborative effort of Qatar Museums, the Doha Film Institute, Mathaf, and the future Art Mill Museum, aiming to integrate cinema into the narrative of global art history.
