Young Projects' Cut Out House nestles into Canadian Rockies with butterfly roof
Young Projects, a New York-based architecture and design firm, has completed Cut Out House, a family vacation home in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The irregularly shaped structure is clad in gray Accoya and topped with a butterfly roof that mirrors the sloping terrain. Inside, angled planes direct views toward the mountains, while private areas are positioned where tree density blocks sightlines. Communal spaces occupy areas where the roofline slopes upward, offering panoramic views. The design cuts out and around nature, turning site challenges into sculptural expressions.
