Young Curator Liv Cuniberti on Her Role in the 59th Venice Biennale

Liv Cuniberti, an art historian and curator, joined Cecilia Alemani's team for the 59th Venice Biennale, titled 'Il latte dei sogni' (The Milk of Dreams). Cuniberti split her time between London and Venice, collaborating with various museums and galleries. She studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art and is completing her curatorial studies at Bard College in New York. Her collaboration with Alemani began in summer 2020 through a program at CCS Bard, where she worked on the exhibition 'Le Muse Inquiete: La Biennale di Venezia di fronte alla storia' alongside Alemani and Marta Papini, the current artistic organiser of Biennale Arte. That exhibition was held in the Central Pavilion of the Giardini from August 29 to December 8, 2020, celebrating the Biennale's 125th anniversary. Cuniberti focused on the architecture of national pavilions, documenting structural changes from their construction to the present. She spent days at the Archivio Storico delle Arti Contemporanee (ASAC) in Porto Marghera sourcing materials. Cuniberti notes that the Biennale has strong political and market implications, differing from Documenta. She finds the 2022 edition less conventional and more experimental. She describes Alemani as an experienced curator who is unusually friendly and considerate. Cuniberti has worked in Venice and abroad, noting that internships with international institutions abroad provide valuable field experience.
